Bring The War Dollars Home

Since 2001, Amherst residents have paid a whopping $128.7 million toward the war effort. In a 6-2 first vote the Northampton City Council adopted the “Bring the War Dollars Home” warrant in an attempt to assist with programs provided for returning soldiers, more specifically the local VA.  Ruth Hooke, a Town meeting member commented, “We’re very concerned about the fact that we’ve had to cut teachers and police and our infrastructure is terrible. Our roads are crumbling because not enough money is coming to the states.”

The proposal would oppose additional funding for military campaigns in the Middle East and to support resolutions prohibiting an increase in troop levels in Afghanistan. The second vote is scheduled for October 7th.
